Beauty for Ashes: Be Emotionally Healed by Joyce Meyer

Joyce Meyer penned Beauty of Ashes as her way to share her personal healing story. You may wonder, but Meyer is actually not a stranger when it comes to experiences a lot of degrading problems in her life. And these experiences have led her to a place where she never thought healing would even be possible again. For more than thirty years, Meyer was abused physically, verbally and sexually. But it was indeed a miracle when she found the hope and strength that she needed to once again stand up with the help of God.

Beauty for Ashes is mainly written for victims of various types of abuse. Using this book, Meyer talks about the idea that after abuses, victims will really find it hard to look at themselves and see a normal person. But life must go on. Meyer states her own experiences and story, especially focusing on the idea that she herself had gone through the same adversity that all other victims have. Then she moves to tell how through God, she found herself getting back and picking up where she thought life has stopped.

All of us eventually become victims in life, not always of abuse but of all forms of problems and adversities. And because of the pain that we harbor, we sometimes start to push God out of our lives. We say to ourselves that we are completely alone, whereas we are not. And this exact message is what Meyer aims to share to her readers. The past is gone and what was forcibly taken away from us at that time is lost forever, but we still have the present that we can use to reshape our lives in order to have a better future.

Meyer also talks about “repaying”, or avenging for what the victims have suffered. It is fairly understandable how avenging themselves could be the first thing that occupies the minds of the victims after their experiences. Considering all the things they were pushed to take, forgiving seems like an impossible idea. But Meyer says that victims should forget about these thoughts, as only God alone has the right to punish wrongdoers

If there would be someone that could really talk about these sensitive things with utmost accuracy and empathy, it is a person who knows the true feeling of going through them. It is admirable how Joyce Meyer decided to help her readers by dissecting her very own personal story in this book. The whole book was painful, bold, and beautiful. Beauty for Ashes is a must-read for everyone who is struggling to fight a battle with tragedies in their past. Whether you have been a victim of abuse yourself or whether you simply would like to see through the world of these victims, then you should grab a copy of Beauty for Ashes.
